Hewitt J. Doucet, born on September 26, 1945, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at the age of 80. A lifelong resident of Lake Charles, Hewitt was known for his big heart, warm conversations, and the way he never met a stranger.
Hewitt was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Polus Doucet; his brother Arvil Doucet; his daughter Michelle Doucet; and his beloved dog, Buddy, whom he thought was the smartest dog in the world.
He is survived by his brothers, Delbert Doucet and Carrol Doucet; his children, Vanessa Doucet (Todd), Kelly Doucet, and Wayne Doucet (Lauren); along with his grandchildren, Stoney Boudreaux, Raven Poncho, Joseph Landry (Melody), Mathew Trahan, Daniel Doucet, and Carrington Sanders (Brennan). Hewitt was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Hewitt worked for many years as a truck driver. From a young age, he worked cattle and developed the work ethic that would follow him throughout his life. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and he never met a stranger. He could spark up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, about anything.
Hewitt loved the sport of Rodeo, its people, its sense of family, and he never missed a chance to take his son and his friends to ride bulls, no matter how far the trip. He cherished those memories, and the stories were told for years. One thing he never liked was saying goodbye. To Hewitt, it was always, “See you later.”
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21st, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Simple Traditions by Johnson Funeral Home, 3448 5th Ave, Lake Charles, LA 70607.
Hewitt will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His genuine kindness, humor, and easygoing presence will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
