John Anthony Lowery, Jr, 62, passed away peacefully August 29, 2026. John is remembered fondly by those who knew him as a devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Widely known for his sense of humor and great love of nature, John was the epitome of a Louisiana outdoorsman. He spent his life as a steward of the land and was dedicated to wildlife preservation for future generations of hunters and fishermen. His greatest pride and joy were his two daughters, Lillian Lowery Richard of Morse (Steven) and Abigail Lowery of New Orleans.

Any given weekend, John and “the girls” could be found outside enjoying the marshes of Southwest Louisiana, scream-singing at concerts, or building one of his numerous DIY projects in the backyard. He was a selfless servant to others and a gifted storyteller, frequently bringing his audience to tears of laughter with vivid recitations of his tales and misadventures. His never ending jokes, enduring love of live music, and killer recipes will be sorely missed, but are carried on by those who loved and cherished him.

He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Lowery Sr.; his brothers, James and Phillip Lowery; and his sister, Cathy Lowery Munson. John leaves behind his mother, Velma Lowery; his sisters, Cynthia Carpenter and Joan Hauser; his brothers, Stephen Lowery and Patrick Lowery; his wife of 35 years, Mandi Lynn Fehrman Lowery; his daughters, Lily Lowery Richard and Abby Lowery; his son-in-law, Steven Richard; and his grandson, John Paul Richard.

Honoring his wishes, his daughters have decided to forgo a memorial service. In lieu of flowers or meals, his family asks that a donation is made in his name to the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation or to Ducks Unlimited. “Be good, don’t let the bastards get you down.”
