Joseph “Joey” James Tero, age 44, passed away in his home in Sulphur, Louisiana, on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Joey was born on June 21, 1981, in New Orleans, La, but it was in Sulphur that he truly found his home. Throughout his life, Joey faced many obstacles and navigated significant challenges. Through sheer resilience, he overcame them all, ultimately reaching a place in his life where he was truly at peace and happy. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. A “gearhead” at heart, Joey had a passion for cars and especially mini trucks. He was a man of knowledge who loved to watch documentaries; he knew a lot about everything, and his mind was always at work.
He loved to find like-minded people and explore extraordinary topics with them. At home, Joey was a strong, steady presence for his family. He was most at peace relaxing and watching TV with his two best friends, Sandi and Doogie.
He is survived by his wife, Karla Tero; his son, Joeb Tero; daughter, Kassie Austin; and stepson, Trenton Roccaforte (Taryn Roccaforte). Joey also left behind a loyal brother, Tony Tero (Angela Perry); sister, Alison Scott (Kyle Scott); and nieces and nephews: Shalyn Bagley, Gabe Tero, Sophie Tero, Bailey Ware, Dixie, Taylor, Brooklynn, Hadley, and Lakely, along with many cousins and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon James Tero Jr. and Trudy Inez Tero, and his grandparents, Frank Cousins and Clara Christine Cousins.
Joey was deeply loved. His strength in overcoming the odds and the happiness he found in his final years will forever be his legacy.
