Michael Miller

April 20, 1964 — April 16, 2025

Michael Charles Miller, 60, passed away in his home, leaving behind a legacy of strength and character. Born on April 20, 1964, in Japan, he was adopted by a Navy family. He spent his early years in Spokane, Washington, before his family settled in Mississippi. In later years, Mike made his home in Sulphur, Louisiana, where he continued to live out his deep connection to life on the water.

Capt. Mike, a devoted Tow Boat Captain, spent much of his life navigating the Intracoastal Waterway with precision and pride. He worked for D&S Marine for the past 19 years, where he built strong relationships resulting in a widespread brotherhood. His work wasn't just a job - it was his passion, one that reflected his knowledge, leadership, and unwavering loyalty. Capt. Mike will be remembered for his big personality, mastery of the craft, and the steady presence he brought to those around him. Through this leadership and mentoring, he passed on knowledge and experience that will impact Captains for generations.

Mike was a loving husband to his wife, Sherry, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage. He was a proud father to his son, Keith, and a devoted stepfather to Zack, Andie, and Sarah. Mike would take pride in saying he had 11 grandchildren, each of whom brought him great joy. He loved his family deeply and worked many long hours to support and provide for them.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Ann McCormick-Miller and Harlen Miller. He is survived by his wife Sherry Jones Miller; his son Keith Miller; his stepchildren Zack (Amanda) Jones, Andie Jones, and Sarah (Chris) Gandy; his siblings Patrick Miller, Leslie (William) Johnson, Kristen Miller, and his precious grandchildren. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family, lifelong friends, and crewmen who will carry his memory forward - a captain, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a man who built a meaningful life through loyalty, love, and hard work.

The memorial for Mike will be a Sharing Meal where people will be asked to share stories or memories if they feel comfortable doing so. This will take place on May 4th between 1-3pm at White Oak Park (5584 River Road Lake Charles 70615).

Capt. Mike's cremains will be scattered on the water of the Intracoastal Waterway, from his boat by his crew - a final journey befitting a life spent doing what he loved.
